Material Fabrication School of Gaza
(architecture)
Looking at the premise behind designing and building a material fabrication school that can respond to the conventional environment in Gaza. Between the rubble, and within the rubble. A space emerges to the making of other spaces

Questioning the illegal blockade of Gaza, particularly cement (one of the many banned resources allowed into the strip) and looking into functional and experimental alternative materials of which could be used to construct. The proposed school is dedicated to the research and making of new materials and methods of building and rebuilding. Nestled within the structure are capsules that function as both shelter and spaces of preservation of knowledge, life and community, under the threat of the violent occupation. Through architectural intervention the continuance and resistance of the future of Gaza must live.

When Gaza is not under attack these capsules become spaces for storing archives and important material findings. This kind of open space mechanism serves as a mediating device between the city and the capsules. The school becomes a threshold between the two. Where refuge is primarily presented in these spaces that are formally and experientially distinct. Instead of hiding the capsules, they are highlighted as sculptural objects.
