Witch’s Ascent
(architecture)
Witch’s Ascent is a site-specific installation designed as both a memorial and a contemplative structure. Located on a small island in Ireland and accessed by a narrow bridge, the project responds to the history of women accused of witchcraft and executed in isolation.

The structure is organized as a cylindrical tower built from a series of stacked rings clad in charred timber. The blackened exterior recalls traditional burning practices while reinforcing the project’s somber tone. Inside, a spiral staircase winds upward around a central core, gradually transitioning the visitor from the open ground level to an enclosed lookout above.

From the top, the landscape unfolds in every direction, offering a quiet moment of stillness and perspective. The experience is both spatial and symbolic, an ascent that mirrors the act of reclaiming history through presence and reflection.
